ANSON-ROA'S HOLY WEEK MESSAGE: DON'T YIELD TO VOTE BUYERS
April 3, 2004
KNP senatorial candidate Boots Anson-Roa issued a Holy Week message yesterday, callling on the electorate to resist the temptation of selling their votes to moneyed but unprincipled polliticians.

"I pray and hope that voters should stick to their principles by voting wisely and intelligently in the May 10 elections without succumbing to juicy offers of politicians to buy their votes," said the multi-awarded actress who is running for the Senate under the banner of KNP presidential standard bearer Fernando Poe Jr. and his running mate, Senator Loren Legarda.

At the same time, Anson-Roa appealed to candidates for public office to stop mudslinging and stick to issues.

"Mudslinging will not bring any good but will only confuse voters in the choice of their candidates," she added.

Anson-Roa expressed the hope that the Lenten break should mark the beginning of a principled campaigning by candidates from all parties by avoiding muck-raking and vote-buying.

"We must raise the level of the election campaign to a higher plane. There must be a level playing field for all," the KNP senatorial bet remarked as she made reference to the misuse of government funds and facilities by those in power.

Anson-Roa also called for a peaceful and orderly election campaign, deploring the rising number of poll violence cases since last December.

She cited the second attempt on the life of Mindoro Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato only recently.

"I hope that the Holy Week will bring the much-needed change in our political traditions by doing everything in accordance with God's will," Anson-Roa said. "We cannot afford to turn our back on God and country."

In this context, she expressed the hope that administration candidates should stop the misuse of government resources in their campaign in order to make the current campaigning fair to everyone.
