CORRUPTION, UNEVEN PLAYING FIELDS RAISE ANSON-ROA'S HACLES, SAYS DAUGHTER
March 29, 2004
Widespread government corruption and an uneven playing field
in the current election campaign in favor of President Gloria Macapagal
Arroyo are what make KNP senatorial candidate Boots Anson-Roa's hackles
rise.
This was the comment of Anson-Roa's daughter, Chiqui Roa-Puno,
on why her usually convivial mother has broken her silence on the
mounting reports of government irregularities.
"She could no longer take it. Her moral sense is challenged,"
Chiqui said.
The multi-awarded actress, who is running for the Senate under
the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino led by the presidential tandem of
Fernando Poe Jr. and his running mate, Senator Loren Legarda, had filed
a petition with the Supreme Court, charging the President with
electioneering.
The petition, filed by Anson-Roa with her fellow KNP
senatorial bet
Amina Rasul, asked the President to resign or file a leave of absence
for the duration of the election campaign to stop her from using
government funds and facilities in her campaign for the presidency.
Chiqui said her mother had been receiving many e-mail and text
messages on government venalities, asking her to do something about
them.
"My mother is so fed up, prompting her to go on the warpath
against unabated government corruption," the KNP bet's daughter said.
Anson-Roa has appealed for voters' support in her campaign for
a Senate seat, pledging her resolve to help eliminate corruption in
government, together with the perpetrators, if elected in the May 10
poll.
She has also sought to level the playing field in the current
election campaign by asking the high tribunal, together with her
co-petitioner Rasul, to stop the President from the gross misuse of
government funds, personnel and facilities in her campaign to win the
presidency.
